Divination is the attempt to gain insight into the future, a question, or situation. It has been used by humanity since the early stages of civilization. Tarot is a form of divination, cartomancy to be specific, that still has mysterious origins. The most acclaimed and agreed upon history of the tarot is that it started out as a widely spread card game throughout Europe around 1530. The cards were noticed for their symbolic pictures in France and England in 1781 and “rediscovered” as a divination tool. Some believe that the cards were created in Egypt and considered to be hieroglyphical keys to life. Modern day playing cards are descendants from the ancient tarot deck. 

                One of my favorite excerpts from the book “The Tarot: A Key to the Wisdom of the Ages” by Paul Foster Case really spoke to me. “The Chinese have a proverb, ‘One picture is worth ten thousand words,’ and Chinese writing is made up of conventionalized pictures. These pictures express ideas instead of words, so that Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans, although they speak more than seven different languages, communicate easily with one another, if only they can read and write.”

           Tarot is a powerful way to access and use your intuition to read into a person, situation, and predict the future. In a reading one hundred and fifty six cards can be pulled . Cards are pulled following one’s intuition. There are other forms of divination, which are also tools to access one’s intuition. Divination is a form of art to me.
